Director Peter Jackson's epic won 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

The Last Samurai siege with this sweeping period drama set in 19th-century Japan. After centuries of relying on hired samurai for national defense, the Japanese monarchy has decided to do away with the warriors in favor of a more contemporary military. Tom Cruise stars as Nathan Algren, a veteran of the U.S. Civil War who is hired by the Emperor Meiji to train an army capable of wiping out the samurai. But when Algren is captured by the samurai and taught about their history and way of life, he finds himself conflicted over who he should be fighting alongside.

Taking home a paycheck that nearly rivals the budget of the first film, Reese Witherspoon reprises the role oflegally blonde Elle Woods in this sequel to 2001's surprise blockbuster Legally Blonde. When she's fired from her job at an upscale law firm for voicing her stance against the testing of cosmetics on animals, Elle heads to Capitol Hill to fight for her cause before Congress, leaving her boyfriend, Emmett, reprising his role from the film's predecessor, behind. Once there, she runs into plenty of adversity and red-tape and can't seem to find anyone who will listen to her proposals. While staying at the Watergate hotel though, she meets and befriends an elderly bellman who's been around politicians long enough to know the ins and outs of the political machine. With his help, Elle attempts to convince disillusioned U.S. Representative Rudd to help her get her voice heard in front of the stodgy old coots of the legislative branch.

6. Runaway Jury (Gene Hackman; John Cusack)

In New Orlerunaway juryans, a fired employee of a law firm takes an assault weapon and murders 11 people in the firm, then kills himself. The wife of one of the murdered lawyers sues the firearms manufacturer for being careless about the way they sell assault weapons. Wendall Rohr represents the wife, and Rankin Fitch represents the gun manufacturer as a jury consultant, working behind the scenes to gather information on the jury members before they are selected. Nick Easter manages to get himself onto the jury, but has ulterior motives. He and his accomplice Marlee are going to control the outcome of the trial, and offer both Rohr and Fitch a positive decision for 10 million dollars. Although Nick and Marlee are hoping for things to go smoothly, Fitch decides to play rough, eventually burning down Nick's apartment. But Nick and Marlee are willing to play that game, and Fitch knows that he must win at any cost, because a loss would be a precedent that could spell the doom of gun makers across the country.
